Just because vous can be plural doesn't mean it always is.

For example, Monsieur Untel, êtes-vous allé à la banque?


I'm only speaking to one person, so the past participle does not require any agreement here, in comparison to Monsieur et Madame Untel, êtes-vous allés à la banque? where it does.

Yes, the singular "vous" is the polite form of " you" in English -
