Kwiziq Question - J' before appeler

Hi,

I was doing a Kwiziq quiz and got thsi question: "

________ appelle mon père.I call my father.
I thought the answer was je s'appelles, so I put je s'. The correct answer is "j' ". Why is there no reflexive part to it? No me, se, te or anything. I was a little thrown off by that. It would only be "j'appelle" - is that correct?

"I call my father" does not have a reflexive part. The verb appeler takes a direct object, which is who you call:

J'appelle mon père. -- I call my father.

If you want to say "I call myself" as the French way to say what your name is, then you'd use a reflexive pronoun:

Je m'appelle Sanchita. -- My name is Sanchita. (lit. I call myself Sanchita.)
