La voix passive

Good morning,

Could someone please clarify for me in the following sentences if they are in the active or passive, voice, please, and if so, why? Thank you.

1. Tu etais sortie. (Pls. forgive lack of accent. Thx.)

2. Le chien sera sorti.

3. It sera entre (again, with an acute accent).

Thank you, Katherine.

Hi Katherine,

Just to add to the good answers already given it depends whether the subject of the sentence ( tu- le chien- il)  is doing the action ( active voice)  or undergoing the action ( passive voice)  so without full context it is difficult to say.

Hope this helps!

Hi Katherine,

Yes, they do appear to be in the passive voice except 3, but incomplete because there is no object doing the action. 1) Tu étais sortie (by what?) same point for 2.

Hope this helps?

Grammatically those sentences are ambiguous:

"Tu étais sortie" can be either plusque parfait (you had gone out) or imperfect passive (you were taken outside).

"Le chien sera sorti" could be future perfect tense (the dog will have gone out) or future passive (the dog will be taken outside)

Similarly for the third sentence.
