How many ways are there to say "to take a class" and which is the most and least formal?

"Prendre un cours" et "suivre un cours". Je ne suis pas sûr de la formalité, mais "suivre un cours" peut sous-entendre que quelqu'un est plus actif dans ses études que "prendre un cours".
