When should we use 'dès' instead of other ways of expressing 'from' in French?

Bonjour Sue ! "Dès" is used in the context of duration, as it means "from" in the sense of "as soon as" or if you will "from....onwards": "Je l'ai aimé dès que je l'ai rencontré." (I loved him as soon as I met him.) "Les gens sont arrivés dès huit heures." (People got there from eight onwards.) I hope that's helpful! Bonne journée !
