Why, in the last sentence, do we not pluralize the hearts in French? to read aux coeurs des Français..

That point comes up a lot. It has to do with the way French people think.

English: the hearts of the French. (many French, therefore many hearts)French: the heart of the French. (everyone only has one heart, therefore singular).
