Why is it "derniere" with an "e"

Isn't "jour" masculine.  So why is it "derniere"

Hi kitty Kelly,

I think I have found the example in a Kwiq -

Il est arrivé le dernier jour de la semaine _____ ( He arrived the last day of last week)

should be dernière as the word it refers to is semaine which is feminine.

Hope this helps!

Hi Kitty Kelly,

I've had a look for the piece that you are querying but am unable to find it.

Could you quote the exact sentence and I will have another look for you and try to help out?

Jim

@Cécile: I am confused. Le dernier jour de la semaine seems correct to me because dernier refers to jour, right? You may be missing a dernière in your sentence.

Le dernier jour de la semaine. -- The last day of the week
Le dernier jour de la dernière semaine. -- The last day of the last week.

Chris, you had to fill in the blank which is 'dernière' ...

Oh, I missed the underlining at the end as part of the sentence. Of course. It makes sense now. Sometimes things are just too obvious. :)))
